Okay, this book did NOT suffer from second book syndrome for me, but rather quite the opposite. I enjoyed this one so much more than the first one because it truly felt like we had direction and things were happening. It was so intriguing to try to keep track of all the plotting by all the different factions involved and how one thread pulled here by one would affect the plans of the rest of them elsewhere. I also enjoyed how Chakraborty show the layers with her characters and how many of them are likable, while also being severely flawed and blinded by their own biases. This book really got me with pitting all these sympathetic characters against each other.
