This book shows me how much I love Rick Riordan’s writing. This book isn’t attached to the Percy Jackson Universe and I still loved it. The characters feel so alive with their jokes and palpable grief. Cliches are dodged and the overall atmosphere is easy to fall into. I caught one of the plot twists early, but that didn’t make me want to stop reading at all. Instead I kept on going and loved it to the end. A great book about the sea, showing a connection to it that has shaped the kind of writer Rick Riordan has become.
