A review by bookswithbrielle
Beartown by Fredrik Backman

5.0

I AM UNWELL RIGHT NOW. Let's back up though. This was my very first audiobook & I am so glad it was because the narrator for this story was perfect. This character driven book about a hockey town put my heart through the wringer. I teared up a few times before I even got halfway through the book. I fell in love with a lot of these characters. I wanted to smack some. I felt myself rooting for an imaginary hockey team....and for the boy with sad eyes and a wild heart.

what to expect
- emotional read
- hockey, hockey, hockey
- relatable characters
- check trigger warnings
- coming of age
- complex family issues

FINAL THOUGHTS: Kim Holden said it best in the comments of one of my posts 'Fredik Backman will reach into your ribcage and fucking throttle your heart. Lovingly. And you'll thank him for the pain because it makes you a better human being.'
