Never Too Far by Abbi Glines
2.0
To say I was disappointed by this is a bit of an understatement. I really liked Fallen Too Far - there were a few things that bugged me. Blaire being a bit too innocent, and everyone treating her like a fragile doll. And Rush being a bit too possessive and jealous - I mean this isn't the 18th century where the man held all the power in the relationship. But I was able to look past those things and still enjoy the overall story. However, this was not the case with Never Too Far.
Recently, I've noticed a variety of authors who have stretched their romance novels into two books instead of just one. I am not one of those people that think they are only doing it to make money. I honestly think they have an idea of where the story is going to go and want to do it justice. If that means the story needs to get broken out into two books then I have nothing against that. However, I have noticed in several instances (this being one of them) that this second book does nothing to add to the overall story. In fact, I end up getting so annoyed or bored with the second book that it actually takes away from my enthusiasm of the first book. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
In the case of Never Too Far, if I could overlook Rush and Blaire annoying me before, it was impossible now. Rush freaking out over any guy talking to Blaire, even his freaking brother, got really old really fast. The fact that Blaire let him get away with it annoyed me even more. It was ridiculous she was so concerned about hanging out with Woods - Woods was her friend, and there for her when Rush wasn't.
And Blaire wasn't any better. She barely made Rush fight to win her back. Instead she just kept saying how she forgave him and understood where he was coming from. Fuck that. Then suddenly, and she immediately falls back into a relationship with him?
And don't even get me started on the situation that lead Blaire back to Rosemary in the first place. I seriously felt like I was reading one of my historical romance novels where the guy has his way with the girl, does something to mess it up, and suddenly they are getting married. Last I checked this story was written in 2013 not 1713. It felt completely contrived and just thrown in there as a good excuse to get Blaire and Rush back together.
Needless to say, I heard that Ms. Glines plans on writing a third book for Rush and Blaire, and I will not be reading it. Do yourself a favor and pick up any other Abbi Glines book instead of this one. As much as I hate to say it, it's not worth your time or money.
