A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

5.0

I read this entire series in the last week, and I have nothing but praise for it, especially the first book in the series.

It follows Pippa Fitz-Amobi as she retraces the clues and tries to resolve the murder of Annie Bell. Doing so, she uncovers a lot of secrets that people have been keeping and things get so intense. There’s a lot more to the story than what first meets the eye and as Pippa digs deeper and deeper, the story blows your mind as you try to keep up and guess at the real murderer.

This book is not just about uncovering secrets and murders, but also in so many ways about friendships, love and family bonds which play a very important role in shaping the story and our main characters. At the heart of it, this book is about the people it revolves around and what they do to protect those they care for. It’s what makes this book so real and special and gets you invested.

I loved how this book was fast paced and plot focused with minimal outside interactions but also enough to let us get to know the characters we were reading about and fall in love with them? It makes absolutely no sense but somehow, it just happened. Even through the investigation, we get to know a lot about the characters as the book focuses on the main story not letting you get distracted b it also fleshing out the characters and leering you love them and root for them.

I also loved how unpredictable the story was with all the twists and turns. I wasn’t too focused on finding out the real killer but if I had tried and guessed, I’d have been 100% wrong. This book just swerved at the right second to reveal everything to us, making it all make sense but also keeping us questioning until it put all pieces together and I was clutching my chest trying to breathe as it all clicked together.

Overall. Holly Jackson has written a mind blowing, shocking thriller that will suck you in soon enough and not let you go until you know everything - until you know the truth.
