The Winner's Kiss
by Marie Rutkoski
He murmured that he loved her more than he could say. He promised that he would always choose her first.
What a conclusion! I have so few words. I loved it. I love the action, the adventure, the tension, the turmoil, the emotion. The writing is as beautiful as always, the story wonderfully told. The only way I'd have loved it more is if we'd had more sweet moments between Arin and Kestrel, but honestly, what we got was wonderful, so I wholeheartedly give this book and its series a solid 5 stars. Marie Rukoski knows her stuff--she puts the complexity of human emotion on display and deftly weaves it into her story, breathing exceptional life into her characters. I've nothing to complain about. This series is an ideal blend for me--complex, but not overly demanding, emotional, but not in a way that rips you apart inside, beautiful, but not so concerned with aesthetic it loses its ability to tell a solid story.
I'm miffed at myself for not reading this series sooner, but I'm also glad I waited and was able to enjoy this series for the first time right now. I give this series my complete recommendation.
