I haven't read a middle-grade title in ages, nor am I much of a fantasy reader. However, I knew I would enjoy this after skimming over the synopsis and later, the first chapter. I enjoyed following Amari as she ventured on her quest to find her brother, Quinton while discovering herself and her capabilities along the way.

Plot-wise, there were times when I was yearning for more but I had to quickly remind myself that I am not the intended audience. Despite the flatness that was apparent to me as an adult, I could certainly see this being a fun and exhilarating read for the intended age group.

Overall, it was a fun little read. Definitely great if you're in a reading slump and need something a little more adventurous to reastablish a reading routine!
