The choice to write the narrative in broken English was perfect for the context of this story. Adunni is motivated by the belief that education brings freedom. And that learning to read and write English is the key to succeeding. As she experiences the harsh and unfair realities of life being poor and female, she begins to come to the realisation that it may be more complex and that education doesnโt always equate to intelligence. However, that does not stop determined Adduni from doing everything in her power to overcome the adversities she faces.
