An incredibly powerful story following generations of a Vietnamese family and their struggles to survive through the most turbulent and tragic years of their country's history. This was packed with historical details that don't shy away from the gruesome realities of war and survival through the 1900s. It provided a great deal of education about a country and its people that were not often covered during my schooling. Definitely a recommended read for anyone seeking an accessible, visual way to learn more about the wars affecting Vietnam and the Vietnamese people located across the world.
