This book is the epitome of if Joe still loved Love after finding out what he found out at the end of s2 and he still loved her afterwards, but make it kinkier.
I didn't think I'd be reading about another ICU nurse, considering I just read one, but here we are. I thought I was gonna this book; going into it, I thought it was going to be a solid four-star. I'm not into dark romance for the most part, but there are times when I get curious and have the inclination for it. It had an interesting start, and I liked how self-aware it was (not encouraging anything that happens in this book, however, that is the premise, and although it's considered comedic, it's still a dark romance after all).
However, maybe at the 20% mark, it started to lull out for me. Other than the synopsis given, there's really no overarching plot here, and it made the reading experience very boring to me. It was mainly character-driven in the first half, and I wasn't really connected to the characters or their "romance" (very insta love by the way).
I know a lot of people don't like the second half, but to me, that's where things got interesting. The first half was a whole lot of nothing—just him being a creepy, friendly stalker with the hots for her and her having the hots for him. But once we introduced the plot of Alyssa's family, I was engaged.
Nonetheless, I still wasn't connected to the couple. I didn't mind the horny scenes, but I feel like that's all they did. It was either have sex, talk about having sex, or just them being weirdly obsessed with each other. I will admit, though, they're kinda soulmates, they're both the same level of messed up (he's totally tapped and she loves him for it). And although I'm not swooning for Josh like everyone else and don't share his proclivities, nor his inability to have boundaries, but I will say he was a tolerable MMC (however, he still wasn't great enough for me to not still find his behavior creepy).
I find this book to be pretty silly, and I think that was the point, hence my rating. You definitely have to suspend your disbelief considering she allows this stalker man to enter her home, willingly, and doesn't ever report him cuz she finds him hot. Like I don't come expecting this book to be practical.😅 I honestly didn't mind their relationship or the sex; I just wish Josh was a little less weird and that the author focused on building an emotional bond between the two, along with the physical one. In addition, unfortunately, none of the humor landed with me. I didn't think this book was funny, but I understand why others might. Other than that, it was fine. I wasn't planning on reading book 2, but book 2 is Junior's book, and I quite liked him in this book. I'm curious to see his love story. So onto book 2 when it comes out!
Spice Rating:🌶️🌶️🌶️.5/5 (not a dark romance reader, but the spice wasn't a crazy as i thought, still spicy though)
