Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God
by Francis Chan
A quote Francis Chan uses in the book: “Christians are like manure: Spread them out - they help everything grow better, but keep them in one big pile, they stink horribly.”
It was one of my favorite messages from the book, that loving Christ is getting out there and living one’s faith by loving others wholeheartedly, away from the American temptation of security, money, and status - spread out and love! If Christians stay in one big pile and don’t give away their time, money, and other resources for the sake of Christ, how are they any different than just “nice” people. Chan does a great job convicting and challenging me to remember who Christ came to save and love: everyone. My comfort zone is a stupid place to be if someone I’m made to love isn’t pointed to Christ because of my inaction.
In summary, God uses Chan to convict, challenge, and point us to Him. I’m thankful to have heard this message this week. I maybe would have liked to have a bit more theological backing up of Chan’s interpretation of the ideas he writes about to better decipher God’s intent, but the message gets through to me nonetheless.
