Man-Eaters, Vol. 1 by Chelsea Cain

3.0

I wanted to love it completely, and I did enjoy it, but it also felt a bit disjointed and scattered to me. ⠀

Man-Eaters is a comic about teenage girls who turn into killer cats when they get their periods. I love the concept, but had a few issues with the execution. First, the entire fourth issue is a faux magazine, and it was just a bit much, and interrupted the story flow for me. Second, and more important, was that this book felt very "white feminist" to me. There are basically no characters of color, and the main character wears a pink pussy hat like the very controversial ones from the 2017 Women's March. The book isn't overtly or blatantly racist, but it's something worth mentioning.⠀

That being said, I definitely want to know what happens next, and will keep reading for now. The first volume ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, and I'm curious to see how this story arc will resolve.
