I grew up hearing Dolly Parton on the radio and even went to Dollywood with my family when I was a kid. Parton’s songs are stories of intrigue and hard lessons told with a strong voice and bluegrass country flare. In recent years I’ve been impressed by her business savvy, independence, humility, and philanthropy. This short book touches on all of these aspects and relates the author’s own country upbringing alongside Parton’s music. The feminist thread was really interesting and one I admit I’d not thought of before. But @sarah_smarsh makes a solid argument detailing how Parton flips social constructs on end to overcome, deftly paving a new way for herself and others. The audiobook is well read by the author and was a fun way to enter the new year.
