The Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas
4.0

This was a fun one! A little bit like a combo of Percy Jackson w/ The Hunger Games.

Ten semi-dioses between the ages of 13 and 18, competing in trials, basically with the goal to not finish in last place, as that person will be the sacrifice made to Sol to keep the sun in the sky.

It took me a minute to really get my bearings straight, but once I figured it out, I really enjoyed the little adventure we were on. I loved the traveling between cities, and getting to know the other contestants. But my favorite parts were definitely the Trials themselves, which were high on danger and stakes, and not ever as straight-forward as they may have at first appeared.

As a mom of 12 year-old twins, I do think my kids would enjoy this series, and that they are at a perfect age to read/listen to it. (Confirmed, my daughter has already started book 2!)

Audiobook notes: So good! I thought André Santana had the perfect voice for Teo, and really enjoyed his performance.
