Funny You Should Ask by Elissa Sussman

This one was…weird. So much tension built up, so little payoff. The writing is incredibly cringy at times (horny octopuses?! Lick him like a lollipop??). The premise could have been interesting had it not been for 10 years of built-up tension…all because of a handful of days spent between strangers with a very shaky and unrealistic “love” story. The more I read and realized “THAT weekend” was just a time something kind of almost happened (that left them thinking about each other the next decade??), the less interested I became. Not to mention, Chani doesn’t seem like a very professional or good writer. Questionable professional boundary-crossing aside, she has no food questions prepared for her interview, doesn’t have great writing and overall is just boring and flat as a character. This seriously read like corny fanfiction teenage girls write about their celebrity crush.
