Exodus by Kate Stewart

5.0

"Time doesn’t fly—at least it hasn’t for me. It ebbs and flows between the parts I want to remember and the minutes I would give anything to forget."

Any story that can completely captivate me and cause me to cry repeatedly is a five-star read IMO.

While the events in Flock sparked my interest, Exodus made me feel like a full-blown junkie. It took the aching void that I know resides in the deepest recesses of my heart and amplified it ten times over. I cried not realizing how badly I needed to cry.

The first half picks up where book one left off, then about midway through, the story abruptly cuts to the present. I just didn't know how attached I'd get to these characters.

Angsty, aching, searing, devastating... these are all words for how I'd describe Exodus. I was fully immersed in everything Cecelia felt and contended with, and isn't that the whole point of reading novels? The romances, the deceits, the family dramas, the friendships... each of these hits hard.

For better or worse, I loved each and every interaction between Cee, Dom, and Sean. And although I was apprehensive to meet this Frenchman, I ended up getting swept up in THAT, too. Without giving too much away, the tone and pacing felt very different from the first book. Whereas Flock felt more like a liberating polyamorous story with a touch of mystery, Exodus goes full Darkside with the enemies to lovers trope, haunting you relentlessly as it forces you to feel every tortuous moment as Cecelia feels them.

Several parts made me laugh, several parts made me cry, and now I'm stressing over the fact that one book remains. I have no idea how this will end. Help.
