The Boy in the Field by Margot Livesey

4.0

We get inside the heads of three children who discover a body in a field. This is not a mystery, however, and nothing is dark about it. Not everything goes right in their lives, but it's nevertheless a gentle read. Another review said as much: the sort of book you need right now (2020). The kids have depth and it is rewarding to think through some of the coming of age issues with them. I wouldn't say there's a big payoff, just a rich experience of likable characters from start to finish. And that's great.
