In a lot of ways this felt like feminism 101: the novel. I really enjoyed the first 3, but found that this one really stepped out of the format and also still didn’t really challenge the Earthsea status quo.
I found all of the discussions ofrape in this novel to border on gratuitous for YA. I also found the age gap relationship that appeared horrifying. I prayed that it wasn’t going that way. But of course it did.
Sometimes I think being a teacher ruins my ability to enjoy YA. Because part of me still can’t figure out what young person this book is for.
