A Bed of Stars by Jessica Love

A unique take on a bedtime, "afraid of the dark" story. In this case our MC has trouble falling asleep because they are always thinkin about the vastness of the universe, and its size makes them feel small and makes it hard to sleep. To combat this, dad takes them out for a night of camping under the stars out in the desert and encourages the kiddo to name the stars to make them more familiar, like friends--and they fall asleep peacefully. There's a lot of great stuff happening here...father/child relationship, getting out in nature, highlighting a desert landscape that I feel like we don't see as often in children's books, and some desert facts along the way. Jessica Love's watercolor art isn't necessarily my favorite, but its softness fit the tone of the story. -SKB
