Went into this book not really knowing the premise or synopsis. I could be totally wrong, but I think I had heard of it from the podcast Reading Through Life. Regardless, I put in on hold through the @libby.app and finally got around to reading it. I am SO glad I did!

I won’t give spoilers because the twists in this book were too good. So I’ll try to keep this review as vague as possible. This book was the perfect mix of thriller, horror, mystery, and fantasy all in one. I was suspicious of most characters at least once in the story and was kept guessing to the end.

The creatures and haunts of this book were so creepy in so many ways, each very unique and creative. The pacing was fast, and the story was gripping. I read this book pretty quickly with one or two late “one more chapter” nights in there.

I was beyond pleasantly surprised with how good this book was, and even more delighted when I got to the end and there’s a sequel. I added that to my TBR list very quickly!

There were only a few small things that made this book not a perfect 5-star read for me, but it was very close! In the end of the story, the cheesy-feel-good events and musings were just a bit more than felt necessary. I wanted the ending to keep a darker, more raw tone that matched the majority of the tone of the story throughout. The other was that I wanted to know more about some of the creatures and characters… I’m hoping the sequel might give me this. There were just a few things I would have liked to learn more about and go deeper into, but also a few small things I could have done with less of.
