Boy Swallows Universe
by Trent Dalton
Okay, so this book was amazing, however, its not a perfect 5 stars. The writing style was absolutely beautiful, and the story was gripping. The characters all felt real, and the main character's voice - Eli Bell - was strong and interesting, which is great to see in a book. Trent Daltons ability to give this book life is amazing to see with his description through similes and metaphors (many comparisons had me laughing because they were kind of ridiculous in a good way). However, this book is also extremely long; at one point towards the end where Eli is climbing up the stairs to the bell tower, I lost interest because it took far too many paragraphs to describe something that could've been written in a sentence. Moreover, I love that Eli isn't too serious, this book is quite funny and as charming as they come. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Australian fiction novels, or to anyone who wants a fun/crazy book to read.
