In Luthadel, the Mists are scary and The Lord Ruler is God, or so the citizens believe. Afraid to venture out at night due to legends of Mistwraiths, creatures which devour and become horrendous amalgamations of man and beast. While the Skaa labor night and day under the heavy hands of the nobility, a rebellion is on the crimson horizon.

Amidst the intense oppression of the Lord Ruler, someone has survived the Pits. The place where the worst offenders are subject to harvesting what the entire empire depends on, atium. For without the atium, society collapses. This survivor is armed with the strongest weapon around, knowledge. Knowledge on just how to topple a kingdom.

It will take more than a single man to rewrite the hierarchy. He’ll need an army, some very gifted friends, and one girl – Vin.

Vin is a Skaa street rat who trusts no one. Who believes everyone will be abandoned eventually. Who has only survived this long due to her ability to soothe emotions in a scam. When the Survivor hears of her, he feels it is his duty to investigate. Can she really alter people’s emotions? Can she do more than that?

Taking her under his wing, the two of them, along with other associates, begin to craft a catastrophe. One that will remove the oppression. One that will even the playing field. One that begins with the death of the Lord Ruler.

I didn’t anticipate I’d enjoy this book as much as I did. Brandon Sanderson cleverly creates a rich world of fascinating characters and creatures. The humor and banter that is tossed between them feels natural and endearing. Mistborn draws you in and dares you to stay.
