The Odyssey
by Homer
adventurous
challenging
medium-paced
Like many people, I imagine, I picked this up because of the absolute chokehold that Epic: The Musical has had on me for the past year (which, if you haven’t checked it out, do so. It’s incredible.).
This audiobook (translated by Robert Fagles and narrated by Ian McKellan) is definitely the way to go, and I’m so glad it’s the one I picked. The translation is excellent, and Ian McKellan is a treat to listen to.
The story does wear its age, with a LOT of meandering stories and an ending that just. Keeps. Going. However, as a whole it’s a very solid piece of classic literature, and I’m glad to have finally given it a listen.
