While I’ve enjoyed this series so far, I feel like this one really highlights some of the major problems I have. One of those being the way that things are repeated throughout these books, areas of repetition or retelling that should be trimmed down. The first 100 pages are just the backstory of a character we meet in book 1. And I was going to love him, in my mind, cause he’s a pirate, but the first part really took the wind from my sails.
The characters felt even more disjointed, partially due to the setup and also because there was not any emphasis on the relationships, romantic or not, and their stories and the way they collide are all on setup mode for the last book. Major between book feelings.
I’ll likely get the last book from the library, but I’m not sure I care to finish this one anytime soon. It also feels like quite a bit to handle in a final book when some of this should have been wrapped up here.
I’m sad because I was set up for pirates, ships, and storm magic and I got not enough of any of those things to carry me through the parts that dragged. I thought this would be my favorite in the series so far but I was wrong.
