The Years That Matter Most: How College Makes or Breaks Us by Paul Tough

5.0

I recommend this book to all the parents who have high school kids. With thorough research, the author uses big data to show the readers the unfairness of the test and as a consequence the unfairness of the admission, the social mobility, the hanging in on the campus and the suggestion of overhaul of education system. It is eye-opening and thought-provoking. I like "Getting An A" the chapter the most, because the author not only uses beautiful language to describe calculus, but also points out the learning process/revolution of calculus. I tried to introduce that chapter to my daughter who is a junior right now. Of course, I got her rolled-eyes. If only there were more teachers like Philip Uri Treisman, we might see more students who actually like learning calculus and math, and maybe overall learning.
