Daphne by Josh Malerman
3.0

- Cheesy cheap horror novel that relies a bit too much on stereotypes and 'twists'
- I didn't enjoy the main character and found myself rooting more for every other girl portrayed. Main reason for this was due to Malermans inability to write a teenage girls diary well. It absolutely did not work
- It came off very stereotypical, jocks are idiots and goths are evil, with absolutely no depth
- You also get the perspective of the female detective who is "new to town" (at least comparatively) and is just one big fat stereotype, which made her feel both redundant and annoying
- Malerman did not know how to write any women in this novel. All flat and read as if they were written by a man (which they were, but still shouldn't feel this obvious). Though will say, this does not mean they were needlessly sexualized.
- Would not recommend, but it is an easy read and fun enough if you don't care for quality
