The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

5.0

I don't recall who recommended this book to me, but I hesitated reading it and its sequels for some years under the impression it was a book for young adults (which I am not and have not been for some seasons). It was a mistake on my part.

The story may well be written for teens, but it is a great story for kids of any age. There are many subtle messages that I'm not certain most 14-year-olds would not get. But that's the beauty of childhood reading. If it's truly a good book, you will take away a message at 15 or 50. It may not be the same message, but that's the good part.

You should read this book, both for the good writing and for the wonderful story about a brave little kid.
