An Artificial Night by Seanan McGuire
2.0

An Artificial Night is the third installment in the October Daye series by Seanan McGuire. The book starts off on a positive note, with Toby arriving at a Birthday party for her friend's (Stacy) children, who affectionately call her "Auntie Birdie." However, the positive atmosphere does not last long, of course.

An unexpected arrival comes knocking at Toby's door. This really changes things, and makes her reflect on some of her lifestyle choices.

A frantic Stacy calls Toby to tell her two of her kids (Jessica and Andrew) are missing. Karen wont wake up. But that is only the beginning. Tybalt calls in his earned favor when he discovers he has five children missing from his court. Then....Quentin tells her Katie has gone missing as well.

Toby has to rescue the children from none other than Blind Michael. One of the firstborn. He's scarier (and more powerful) that even the Luidaeg. On the way, she learns some interesting information about the past of one of her closest friends.

The first half of this book was fairly interesting, after that it slowed down significantly. I really did enjoy the backstory we got on a few of the characters, because this series is severely lacking in the character development department. The supporting characters are probably what has kept me reading this series, despite that fact that Toby is about as dry and uninteresting as a main character can possibly be.
