This graphic novel adaptation of Octavia Butler's Kindred does a fantastic job of gripping the reader immediately, and not letting go until the final page.

I had recently heard about Kindred from a colleague, and the premise sounded so captivating. I was surprised to see that there was a graphic novel adaptation. I would typically try to read the original work first, but the graphic novel became available through the library sooner, so here we are.

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing this story through Dana's eyes as she was continually whisked back and forth between the past and present. The illustrations added to the intrigue but were not so graphic that it would make your stomach turn. Although the things that happen to Dana and those around her are horrifying, the author of this adaptation has done an excellent job respecting the emotional appeal those scenes hold.

I'm eager to read the original story!
