The Heart Goes Last by Margaret Atwood

3.0

My favourite thing about reading Margaret Atwood is her world building. The eerie dystopian worlds which we are thrown into are built as though they are only a small step away from our own world. Everything is conceivable and everything is well executed.

I liked this story, I liked the humour and I liked the plot. It wasn’t my favourite Atwood, and they weren’t my favourite of Atwood’s characters. However, I really appreciated the places that this story went. The busted relationships, the creepy boss and the manipulative “friends”. Sometimes it’s nice to spend time with characters who ultimately aren’t likeable, fallible people with their own agendas which are probably a little bit messed up. In a world where life is cruel and technology is used to exploit, the majority of people are focused on survival. It’s not an easy world but Atwood makes it such a fun ride.
