I think that this is a really annoying end to the original story of The Giver. I think that the idea of how some people have gifts and some don’t should have been in the story. I also think the ending was rushed and didn’t give a satisfying ending that you would expect from a 4-book series.

I enjoyed reading about Claire and her experiences in the original community and how she confided/commiserated with Jonas. I also really enjoyed the middle when she was recovering from amnesia and basically learned how to be a person.

I’m disappointed. If anyone asks I would tell them to read the first book and treat it as a stand-alone novel because the mysterious ending felt resonant with the whole book.
