A very promising start to the series. Wonderfully evocative writing to set the atmosphere, the writer clearly loves the locale of the setting. The story itself was satisfyingly frustrating too. It was frustrating because the motives and behaviour of the characters all rang annoyingly true. Which is why I bumped it from 4/5 to 4.25/5 for the clever and credible way in which the police chief planned to ensure some justice would be served on the primary antagonist
