3.5/5 stars for this horror novella. I think the ending is what really pulled it up to a 3.5 instead of a 3. I was struggling during much of the text to get a sense of the kind of person Martyr Black is, and it wasn’t until the end that much of that confusion was laid to rest. I enjoyed the novella within the novella and how that story slowly revealed itself. I don’t think the book is weaker for having included the other pieces that surround this novella within the novella, I just think that was the bit that pulled me in the most. Worth the read, not sure I’ll revisit it.
