Counterfeit Faith is the final book in Crystal Caudill's Hidden Hearts of the Gilded Age series.  Each book can be read as a stand alone, as every book in this series features a different secret service agent and a new counterfeit case.  We meet Josiah in Counterfeit Hope. He seems to win over the ladies before he even opens his mouth!  He was such a likeable character I was glad he got his own story in Counterfeit Faith 

I loved that Gwendolyn was a strong female character who wasn't easily swayed by Josiah's charming nature and that she was fiercely protective of the children in her care.  Since Gwendolyn was reluctant to become another number, Josiah needed to learn patience...this man has a penchant for proposing marriage so he struggles with this in a sweet way. 

Themes of trusting God in all circumstances and learning to trust again after feeling disappointed by Him run throughout the story. I appreciated this vein in the story.  I think we all can say there has been a time when our faith has felt shaken.  Crystal gently ministers to her readers soul through her characters struggles so our own faith might be not only restored, but strengthened.  "The Lord promised to be a lamp-not a sun-unto her feet.  He would illuminate one step at a time and no more!"  How daunting the path may be if we could see from beginning to end!  

One thing kind of niggled at me, when Gwendolyn prayed, it was always in "old" English.  It struck me as a big odd considering she didn't speak that way.  I think it was meant to make the prayers "stand out" it disrupted the flow of the story a bit for me,but not the enjoyment.
