I remember reading this book when I was 16-17 and considered it a really great book. Upon rereading at 24, im not as impressed.

The plot is interesting, but the narrator is unreliable/hard to understand and the story could benefit from more context. Also the writing style is not my favorite. It’s trying too hard to be dark and edgy and deep, but as a result it doesn’t communicate everything the reader needs to know. When I read a book, I want to be able to understand the thought process and get a look inside the head of the narrator. Here, I felt like it was too hard to make a connection.

TLDR: the book tries too hard but at the same time it does not try enough.
