Somehow, I have managed to never read Mercedes Lackey, so I started with this somewhat minor work, I think, involving two young women in Victorian England who have just returned from a magical adventure in Africa and are at odd ends as to what to do with their lives. They go to the shoreline of Wales to investigate an Elemental Power. A bit of cross-cultural fluff, but thoughtfully done.
