I've re-written this review a few times because I keep remembering things that are worth mentioning. I've also changed my rating twice and decided that a 3 is the closest I can give it to my true feelings.

I enjoyed the plot, but the characters bother me. Violet holds petty grudges and asks too much of Xaden, but when he actually gives her what she asks for, it isn't enough for her. They have the same argument about a dozen times throughout the book and never resolve it. There were many plot points that felt unnecessary and were underdeveloped. Also, the ending felt predictable and lackluster. I honestly was not surprised by it, and I won't be waiting on the edge of my seat for the next one. The writing style is, as many others have said, like a poorly written YA novel. It honestly read like bad fanfiction to me at times. I enjoyed the story and will read the next one, but I hope it gets better.
