The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins

I am always concerned when authors decide to return to the worlds, they have written about previously, many years later and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is a prime example as to why.

Upon hearing this was a prequel about the beginnings of Coriolanus Snow, I was immediately not excited to read this as I am not interested in any sort of retroactive hero story about President Snow.
I decided to give it a chance anyways due to my love for the original Hunger Games trilogy and this prequel was simply boring. After finishing this I was left with no new information about Snow or the world of Panem, simply left questioning why this was written.
Furthermore there is no connection to characters like there was to Katniss in the original trilogy, so due to not caring about the characters, or the plot, this was 517 pages of pure boredom.

Ultimately this was a prequel that did not need to exist and I think that Collins needs to leave the Hunger Games universe behind. Maybe if this was released prior to the series or a few years after it was finished, but its been 12 years and I think most of us have moved on.

There is talks even of a film adaptation and all I can think about is how this is going to ruin the original trilogies good name.
If you love the Hunger Games, do not read this!!
