So many good things to say about this book. Yanis manages to cover so much history when it comes to capitalism. He doesn’t complicate, explains concepts thoroughly with visualizations most people can follow. If you’ve ever wondered how we came to this capitalistic system and its ins and outs this is a great book for you.
I learned so much about the economy of the global west that now I feel like I have a strong foundation to keep learning and being engaged.
My favorite part is just how vivid his imagination is. Yanis is a fantastic writer in that he is not only able to tell you history but he can help you imagine a future. He spends quite some time describing what his version of a better world is. He names them, describes them, talks about you might function within it. A world that is more socially conscious and human centered. I might go back to read those parts from time to time knowing how grounded I felt in it. He describes how we can think about taking our power back and take collective action toward a world where most of us would feel more valued.
Please read this book! And if you only have time to read some parts of it please read chapter 6 and 7.
