The Hawthorne Legacy
by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
I think I’m getting too old to appreciate YA these days. Idk. The writing just wasn’t working for me. It’s so repetitive. And I was often bored. I was into it for a little bit—the mystery of it all and what not. But idk. I got tired of the same old puzzle tricks. Everything is an anagram or invisible ink. Like are there any new tricks? I also hate triangles. But I’m not sure I even cared about this one. Idk. Maybe that’s where I’m just too old. Like Avery is 17 and has a lot going on. Can we just have her focus? Getting entangled with any of the hawthorn boys before her year is up and everything is finalized just feels like a terrible idea. But I get it. Teens be teening.
It’s not bad. I can see why younger readers would really enjoy this. I have the third one. I haven’t decided if I actually want to continue. Just not sure I care enough.
