This book is spectacular. It is written so well. Every little detail is enthralling. I love the gambled timeline, the focus on motherhood, the pandemic references, the cherries. I especially loved how the plot bent around the play Our Town. I loved studying this play in high school. I think this book would make a lot less sense if you hadn’t read it or seen it. Also, Meryl Streep’s audiobook narration captured the tone of the book so perfectly.
This would be a 5 star, perfect book for me if it wasn’t for all the sexual content sprinkled from beginning to end. I really don’t like reading anything of that nature, and some scenes in this book were definitely on the edge for me and tainted my enjoyment. That is why it’s closer to 4 stars as it is.
Graphic: Cursing, Death, Infidelity, Sexual content
Moderate: Drug use, Mental illness, Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Racism, Sexual violence, Suicide, Terminal illness, Forced institutionalization, Suicide attempt, Pandemic/Epidemic
