Punchline #1 by James Tynion IV

"People tend to stop listening when they think you're crazy"

I really adored this one shot, getting to see Punchline descent from Alexis to full alterego and looking at Harper and Cullen and Leslie as well.

Though Cullen seems more gong ho for Punchline then realistically he would be it still does have a good conversation on indoctrination and online culture and the way that Alexis talks is making critique on 'influencers' which is really what Punchline is doing, trying to adapt the 'joke' to modern culture. That as Punchline she is the conduit for Joker's message. How it will be received.

And I thought that by looking at her descent through her podcast and Cullen, it worked really well to convey lots of information in a seemless way.

It is on the nose and a little absurd that this many people would be on her side, without detractors but it is Gotham and they've been through a lot. They have an actual criminal case for a supervillain and is there some inferred understanding that as residents who've made the Joker part of their life for the past fifteen years that they can connect with 'being one of his victims' and passively allowing the Joker to continue on as they buy plush toys. It could be an interesting angle on the 'why does anyone live in Gotham' and the comments in Dark Designs that belief in public office went up with Bane and super criminals running the city. Though it seems unplausible, with this continuity of Gotham I could see an interesting exploration of why they would need to believe in Punchline.
