Classic story about aliens, but mostly about society and how they would react to an invasion (hint, not very intelligently, although I'm sure that would be slightly different now in the 21st century with national security such a priority). The narrator takes us through from beginning to end of the invasion, with emphasis on his survival. There's really not a whole lot of descriptions of the aliens, which was a little frustrating at first, since the 21st century has prepared me for so much flashy death and destruction (in 3D!). But I found the book enjoyably creepy and it was a good start to my Halloween reading.
