Truth by Julia Karr

Ok, so after finishing the 2nd book in the series, I still have problems with the premise. The story is interesting enough for me to keep reading, but I can't ever fully enjoy a story like this until I know when, where, why, how, and who's responsible for how things got the way they are.
I sort of have a feel for alot of it, but I can't seem to forget the whole XVI tattoo. What possible benefit could this idea have(obviously lied about) to get everyone to accept it and not completely revolt? All I saw was the tattoo elevated in the media as being this great thing, but it's a ridiculous idea considering the way things are today. People would never accept something like that without a huge story to go along with it. Why are 16 year old girls considered legal? Why is this tattoo supposedly protecting them? We never hear that story in the books. Just what things are like in the future.
And some of the lingo really irritated me at first. I've gotten used to it, but it really sounds like the author was trying to hard to be futuristic.
Still it's an interesting story and I'm curious to see how it will go if another book comes out. Hopefully that stuff will be explained.
