This title started out slow for me and at several points in the beginning I was unsure if I would finish it, but I am so glad that I continued reading. McBride did a fantastic job weaving together stories and community to create a unique literary exploration of Black and Jewish communities in Pennsylvania in the early 1900s. It starts as a slow burn and then becomes a read you can’t put down once you become invested in the characters and understanding how they all fit together.
Moderate: Forced institutionalization, Sexual assault, Pedophilia, Grief, Ableism, Excrement, Antisemitism, and Racism
