It's funny how different my views are post pandemic. I know this book divided fans but I think it does a solid job of talking about oppression and war, and how messy/horrible it is, with everyone feeling like they're in the right. I tried the audiobook this time and really enjoyed listening to Yoruba. Bahni Turpin can read me anything!I like the anti-monarchy conclusion they reach at the end. Took long enough. I wish they'd remove Inan's voice like they did with Tzain, but I really missed the perspective of a non-magic kosidan. I'm curious how this trilogy will end.

A solid sequel covering complex feelings and reactions that are born out of tragedy and grief and trauma. An amazing depiction of the flaws of humans and how life isn't all black and white!
