I love books that make me feel things in the moment and when I recount it. The emotional elements in this book were so well positioned and well written. What took me out was Misaki having to lose her son to realize she had human emotions 😭. That she could feel and love and how it was too late to give her son all of that now. And that she knew she should hold him in death, but had to one last time. The ripple effect of his death not only on Misaki, but to his siblings and father (very later on) also, caused me to be in shambles. Outside of the emotional elements I wish more was to be done to go against the empire. I wish we weren’t introduced to a “new” plot and enemy for it to not be elaborated on. The last 20% of the book I found unnecessary. All in all, I do recommend reading this book.
