The Here-and-Now Habit: How Mindfulness Can Help You Break Unhealthy Habits Once and for All by Tara Brach, Hugh G. Byrne

5.0

I found this book a very helpful. It helped that I knew something of mindfulness before I started the book so I could focus more how it could help break habits that are holding you back from obtaining your goals(one of the author's suggestions is not to call the habits you want to change as being bad). As a was reading the book, I became more aware about how I was sitting(I am currently in physical therapy and need to change some old habits).

The book was also helpful in providing techniques of allowing yourself to feel your negative emotions without letting them overwhelm you(which is a worry of mine). Also the author acknowledges that different approaches may work for different people.

One shortcoming of the book, is that it does not deal with developing positive and helpful habits which is the flip side of negative habits. Another shortcoming is that it goes into too deeply the Buddhist philosophy for what is a self-help book.

However, the book does have many good ideas. It may be more appealing to people who are know about Mindfulness and are looking for ways of discarding certain habits.

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
