"If you can't bear the sound of your own voice, the look of your eyes, the soul of your body, I ask you to do the most difficult thing of all — wait. Wait for the next day, hour, minute, and when it comes close, wait for another. Punish time the way it punished you by promising it your life and taking it back at the last second. After all, why should it win? You make it wait, and when you're busy exacting your revenge, the change will happen in the gentlest of ways. You will find yourself, and you will know you are enough, far transformed and more alive than possible."

I DUNNO MAN I ENJOYED THIS ONE. Books with a 3.5-3.8 star rating are sometimes the best things I have ever read.

Is this the best thing I've ever read? No. Did I have a fun time? Absolutely.

I feel like every time I read books about vampires, the vampires fall really short for me. I like the concept but I rarely like the execution. I think that there were still places that this book chose not to approach with vampires, but I think it got pretty close, all things considered.

I will say that I am tentatively letting this book get away with some things that I am normally not very tolerant of, one of which being OLD ASS IMMORTAL BEING with a NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD. I don't love it but I let it slide because it is vampire fiction. Which is to say it's kind of par for the course.

I actually like Kidan and Susenyos, not enough to die for them by any means, but enough to be invested in this book. I also like the general cast! ie Taj, Slen, Yusef, GK, etc. Another piece in this book's favor.

It had some minor quality things that would bring this book down to me if it wasn't so easy to read, but it wasn't, so I barely care.

Excited for the next one!
