I was wondering why a romance book is nearly 600 pages long, but there is just a little of trauma to go through. This one is definitely not as lighthearted a the other books of the series, my heart really hurt at times for Elena and Jax.
Elena is basically hired as Jax's babysitter as his reputation is ruined by his alcohol antics. That's the basic plot but there is a lot happening for both of them. Elena's parents were killed when she was young. Jax has severe anxiety and takes drugs because of it. His mother is sick and he is silently eating it all up.
It's nice to see how they both help each other with their demons. Their banter is actually very entertaining if Jax is not having one of his moments. Honestly, sometimes you wanna give them both a big hug.
I hated the third act break-up. Jax finds out about his diagnosis and pushed Elena away as a consequence because 'She deserves better'. Then he says a lot of mean stuff to her and never tells her the real problem. Thank God for his mother, she is a legend.
The side characters are also.very entertaining in the book. Jax's parents are really cute, especially his mother. Caleb's storyline is inspiring. And I loved having to other couples here, too.

Jax, Liam, and Noah are close. They're a group of guys with enough issues to compete with Abuela's old telenovelas.They could have a show baswd on Noah dating Santiago's sister, Maya, while Liam dates Maya's best friend, Sophie, the daughter of Noah's team principal. I wish I were making this up. It's like if Romeo and Juliet met The Fast & The Furious minus the crime and Shakespeare's tragic ending. (Elena, p.68)
